After collecting the historic trophy, she jokingly thanked the Swiss player for “letting her win”. With this title Serena has won 21 Grand Slam titles. This is her sixth Wimbledon title. Not only that, Serena has also already won both the Australian Open and the French Open this year.
Serena Williams looked in trouble in the first set, trailing Muguruza 4-2 before bouncing back to win it 6-4. Second set was also easy and the American raced to a 5-1 lead. Again, Muguruza fought back to make it 5-4.
“It feels so good, it’s been a little while and I really appreciate holding it [the trophy]. Garbine played so well, I didn’t know it was over – you’ll be holding this trophy very soon, believe me. I’m just happy it was such a great match. I can’t believe I’m standing here with another ‘Serena Slam’. There was definitely a bit of pressure towards the end”- Serena said in the presentation ceremony.
